When parents are engaged, kids feel supported and our community grows stronger. We have lots of ways to help—big and small.
Immediate Volunteer Needs
- External Affairs (Executive Committee) Urgent: If you’re passionate about your child’s public education, advocate for Escuela Key with APS and the School Board; track key dates and coordinate community calls to action.
- Volunteer Coordinator: Match helpers to events and keep a simple signup calendar (~2–3 hrs/week).
- Assistant Treasurer: Are you a CPA or accounting pro? Volunteer from home to help with monthly budget reconciliations—on your own schedule.
- Spring Fundraising Event Organizing Committee: Help plan and run our spring fundraiser—sponsorship outreach, item procurement, décor, logistics, and night-of support. Planning starts in October (~2–3 hrs/week).
- Garden & Sustainability Team: Help launch a family-friendly gardening club, coordinate seasonal plantings and Gardening Days, and champion simple ways to reduce waste and support healthy living.
- Events Team: Plan or run Family Fun Night, Rocktober, and Cafecito—pick one event or more.

Arlington Public Schools requires all volunteers to be re-approved every two years.
Not sure if you’re current? Check your status in the APS Volunteer Portal. If needed, apply/renew now so you’re ready when sign-ups open.

- Forward it to APS: alicia.zekan@apsva.us.
- Finish the SafeSchools training (pass with 80%+).
- Email your certificate to alicia.zekan@apsva.us.
